         UB LIBRARY SERVICES TO GRADUATE STUDENTS
  1. ACCESS TO LIBRARY RESOURCES
    UB Library operates library services at four locations. The main, FET, CCE North, Francistown and HOORC in Maun. Library materials can be borrowed or returned at any of these branches.
  2. LENDING SERVICES
    Graduate students can borrow up to 25 items per month. Students must present a smart card to check out books.  Books may be renewed if not booked other borrowers. Borrowers are responsible for all materials signed out in their names.   Cards may be used only by the person to whom they are issued;
  3. RESEARCH ASSISTANCE
    Professional librarian assistance in undertaking your research including bibliographic instructions. Subject Librarians are available in all disciplines to provide specialised reference services as well as general consultation. Check the name of the subject librarian in your subject area from the UB website.
  4. INTER-LIBRARY LOAN (ILL) 
    In order to promote research, ILL is available for free to graduate students; however any fees charged by the lending library, such as over due fines will be borne by the student
  5. RESERVES / SHORT LOANS 
    Materials placed on reserve are available at the circulation desk. This will be transferred to the “short loan” section in the old part of the building on the mezzanine Please ask for materials by professor’s name and title.  Selected materials are available through electronic reserve on our web site
  6. COMPUTING FACILITIES
    Graduate students have access to a bank of computer workstations in the library: can search Internet, Microsoft office (word-processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint, etc). The library is  on wireless, bring your laptop to be connected to various library electronic resources
  7. ELECTRONIC RESOURCES
    Information Technology available in the University Library includes Web-based academic full-text journals, and various subject specific databases   multimedia and the online catalogue (http://medupe.ub.bw) which is accessible both on campus and through the campus network. Remote access from off-campus to University Library’s online catalogue is also available at http://168.167.31.11. Internet access is available in the library for research and other work needed to complete research and classroom assignments.
  8. SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
    Materials on Botswana and by Batswana, including books, Newspapers, thesis and dissertations; and university archival materials are housed in the special collections on he lower ground floor, and have their special regulations for use. 
  9. PhD LOCKABLE STUDY CARRELS
    The library has thirteen study carrels reserved for UB PhD students. Students apply for one, check with Customer Services for forms. These are allocated to students through a ballot for an academic year upon payment of prescribed fee. These can only be used by students who have been assigned to them.
    Other graduate students can apply for open study carrels on each floor, allocated through a raffle at the beginning of each year.
  10. GENERAL REGULATION
    General library regulations apply to all customers regardless of status.
